Internet Communications Service Provider Pacific Internet (PacNet) has announced plans to spend more than USD12 million to deploy a wireless broadband network in the Philippines, initially in the Greater Metro-Manila area. The installation of a WiMAX network – a first for the country – will support the company’s core business of supplying leased lines, broadband internet access and other IP-related services mainly to corporate users. PacNet Philippines was recently assigned 15MHz of spectrum in the 2.5GHz-2.7GHz band suitable for Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) services. The unit has also launched a VoIP service, PacNet Vocal, which offers un-metered calls between subscribers regardless of location.
