Paraguay chop

2 Feb 2007

The President of Paraguay Nicanor Duarte has sacked the heads of five state-run institutions, including the country’s national fixed line operator Copaco and the telecoms regulator Conatel. BNamericas reports that while a replacement for Copaco’s Osmar López has not yet been announced, Jorge Pavetti of Conatel will be replaced by Carmelo Ruggilo. Ruggilo, who was previously on the board at Conatel, has said he plans to place a priority on encouraging investment and creating jobs in the country’s telecoms industry.
