Maxis launches mobile WiMAX trials

31 Jan 2007

Maxis Communications has announced the commencement of a live trial of mobile WiMAX, in partnership with Motorola. Initiated in late December last year, the trials at four sites in Kuala Lumpur will be completed by mid-year, Maxis senior general manager for products & new businesses Dr Nikolai Dobberstein told a press conference. The trials will enable Maxis to ‘assess WiMAX traffic channelling capabilities and further evaluate the full mobility and performance of Motorola’s suite of mobile WiMAX solutions in the 2.3GHz, 2.5GHz and 3.5GHz frequency bands,’ he said.

Maxis is one of 17 applicants for 2.3GHz WiMAX spectrum licences, two of which are expected to be announced by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission later this quarter.
