Romania’s telecoms regulator the ANRC has announced the winners of its tender to find operators for 123 rural telecentres. Orange Romania will install 36 telecentres in 18 counties, Rartel has won the contracts for 24 centres in 14 counties, The National Radiocommunications Company will install 44 telecentres in 16 counties, and Vodafone Romania is responsible for 19 installations in 13 counties. The telecentres provide local residents with access to local and long-distance telephony, plus fax, e-mail and internet services. Installation of all 123 centres is to be complete by mid-2007 and comes as part of a wider programme which has already seen contracts for 331 telecentres awarded.
