Indian state-run telco Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) is close to sealing a deal with Intel to deploy the country’s first commercial WiMAX network, according to local news sources. WiMAX is seen as the perfect solution to providing high speed internet connections to India’s vast rural regions. Unnamed sources expect BSNL to announce an agreement shortly. The chipset manufacturer has previously revealed plans to invest around USD1 billion in India by 2010 to expand its operations in the country and invest in local technology companies.
