TelstraClear has selected Ericsson to supply its first W-CDMA and HSPA high speed mobile infrastructure. The telco says it is investing around NZD50 million to deploy 3G and 3.5G networks covering the city of Tauranga, which it says will offer broadband internet speeds over mobile connections. Having won its 3G licence in 2001 TelstraClear is only just making its first moves towards deploying high speed networks, with a launch scheduled for mid-2007, while Telecom New Zealand and Vodafone have already switched on their own 3G services.
