Troubled Irish alternative operator Smart Telecom is to lay off 76 staff in field sales and sales-related functions as part of its ongoing strategic review, according to AFX News. The company’s acting CEO Ciaran Casey said the jobs announcement is ‘a continuation of measures announced last week and confirms the company’s drive to re-focus its sales strategy to address key target markets in a more effective and efficient manner’. Smart is hoping to restructure its business ‘to focus on profitable and high-growth market segments and reduce cash burn to bring the Company to break-even at an accelerated rate’.
