Telus reports 6% hike in turnover; mobile data usage on the rise

Canadian telco Telus Corporation has reported a 6% increase in revenues to CAD2.1 billion (USD1.86 billion) for the second quarter of 2006 driven by continued strong financial performance at its wireless arm and high speed internet and mobile subscriber growth, partly offset by increased restructuring charges. Group EBITDA increased by 4%, whilst earnings per share were CAD1.03, compared with CAD0.53 for the same period of 2005. Mobile division Telus Mobility posted an 18% year-on-year rise in turnover to CAD945 million and an EBITDA increase of CAD74 million to CAD440 million, despite higher customer acquisition expenses. Monthly ARPU improved by CAD2 to CAD63 and the data proportion of ARPU increased by 94% to CAD4.45
