Peter Bayer, the general manager for the Chilean arm of Nokia, has told BNamericas that he expects wireless penetration in the country to increase to 80% in 2006 and 90% by 2010. At the end of 2005, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, the figure stood at 70.3%. ‘The increasing penetration is directly related to the high GDP per capita,’ Bayer said, before going on to predict that by 2010 the percentage of revenue from data services will be as high as 25%, up from the current level of 5%.
