Telekom Austria to achieve 95% ADSL coverage by end-2007

20 Jun 2006

Telekom Austria has revealed plans to invest up to EUR1.2 billion (USD1.5 billion) in upgrading its fixed line network to an all-IP infrastructure over the next five years, according to Telecompaper. Telekom currently has 1,235 local network switches enabled with ADSL technology, covering 90% of households, and aims to have all switches upgraded by the end of 2007, equal to 95% of homes. The network will be enhanced to offer all households the ability to receive Telekom Austria’s IPTV service aonDigitalTV, which provides around 40 TV channels and video-on-demand services via a set-top box linked to the customer’s ADSL modem. Telekom says it has spent EUR4 billion on modernising its fixed network since 2000.
