India’s Tata Group has contracted Alcatel to expand its existing optical multi-service network throughout the country. The USD20 million project will assist Tata Teleservices’ rollout of CDMA mobile services, and support the launch of new broadband products and Ethernet applications by Teleservices and sister company Videsh Sanchar Nigam (VSNL) in the states of Bihar, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. Additionally, it will provide a platform for the backhaul of traffic over Teleservices’ existing mobile network.
