Mindanao congressman Manuel Zamora has called upon the House of Representatives to investigate allegations of poor broadband internet access services from both Smart Communications and Bayan Telecommunications (Bayantel). Although the government is pursuing a non-intervention policy through a deregulated telecoms environment, Zamora says there is a need to investigate complaints about Smart’s fixed wireless service and the digital subscriber line (DSL) service offered by Bayantel. Users have filed complaints about disconnections and technical problems with Smart’s Wi-Fi products, while others cite technical problems and major outages with Bayantel’s DSL service in Quezon City.
