Vibo leads 3G market

29 Mar 2006

According to DigiTimes, Vibo Telecom is the largest 3G operator in Taiwan with 100,000 3G sim cards in circulation, 95% of which are in 3G enabled handsets. Chunghwa Telecom has sold as many as 320,000 3G sim cards to subscribers, but only 70,500 customers are believed to be using 3G phones. Industry sources claim that Vibo’s position at the head of the market is due mainly to significant 3G handset subsidies and heavy advertising. In third place is Far EasTone, followed by Taiwan Mobile: the two companies have over 30,000 and 20,100 3G sim/3G handset users respectively.
