SKT signs USD20 million backbone contract

SK Telecom (SKT) has contracted ECI Telecom to deploy optical solutions for the nationwide expansion of its long haul DWDM backbone network in a deal worth USD20 million over five years. SKT will deploy ECI’s XDM Multi-Service Provisioning Platform (MSPP) to enable the operator to add new digital and multimedia services and provide a long haul DWDM backbone. The cellco said that the nationwide backbone will comprise 33 nodes stretching more than 1,200 kilometres. The deal is part of an ongoing relationship between SK and ECI Telecom.
