Canadian state-owned Saskatchewan Telecom (SaskTel) plans to spend a total of CAD310 million (USD269 million) to boost its data network bandwidth. The investment is aimed at increasing SaskTel’s data transmission speeds five-fold – from 8Mbps to between 40Mbps and 50Mbps – by the end of 2007. The telco has also put aside CAD20 million to improve its cable television service SaskTel Max, giving subscribers access to higher definition TV pictures and multiple connection points in their homes.
