Telecom and Telefonica question Telmex decision

23 Jan 2006

According to local newspaper Los Andes, Telecom Argentina and Telefonica de Argentina have questioned the government’s decision to award Mexican telco Telmex a contract to build a communications network for the police. The two companies claim that Telmex is not the best operator for the job, but the Mexican telco counters by saying that it has a larger presence in the country than them, through its subsidiary CTI. Telmex is ready to sign the USD18 million contract with the government and the new system is expected to be operational by the end of this year.
