Filipino mobile operator Globe Telecom, a joint venture between Ayala Corp. and Singapore Telecom, has revealed plans to pilot its new 3G mobile network to prominent businesses in the country, ahead of a full launch of services before the end of March. In a statement, the company said it had invited companies such as Ayala Land, General Milling Corp., Sun Life of Canada, PruLife UK, 3M Philippines and the Aboitiz Group of Companies to take part in the tests. Initially, 3G will only be available in Metro Manila and will be limited to subscribers with 3G-capable handsets and SIM cards. Globe rival Smart Communications is also readying it own 3G service for launch.
