DBD partners O2 to launch residential WiMAX package

4 Jan 2006

German broadband operator Deutsche Breitband Dienste (DBD) and cellco O2 Germany have launched SmartDuo, a service bundling WiMAX-based broadband internet access with a mobile phone. Marketed as an alternative to bundled residential wireline telephone and DSL packages, SmartDuo customers receive EUR100 credit with their WiMAX connection and a free mobile phone. Users have access to O2’s Genion Homezone service, which enables them to make calls on their mobile phone at fixed line network rates when at home.
