Foreign investment in India’s telecoms operators will reach USD2 billion this year, according to a report in the Financial Express, which pegs the total annual foreign direct investment (FDI) in the country’s telecoms and IT sector at USD9 billion. The manufacture of network equipment and handsets contributed USD2.5 billion in FDI, and there were major investments made by Cisco Systems and several chip makers in new production facilities in the country. Rising investment has been fuelled in part by Vodafone’s recent purchase of a 10% stake in Bharti Tele-Ventures.
