Rogers Communications has announced that it has selected Ericsson to supply equipment to trial 3G/HSDPA technology and a converged IP Multimedia SubSystem (IMS) platform, an IP-based service creation environment that will allow the telco to introduce new multimedia voice, data, audio and video services. The UMTS/HSDPA trial will offer speeds of up to 14Mbps and could eventually be rolled out over Rogers’ existing GSM/GPRS/EDGE network that has coverage of 93% of the Canadian population.
