Costa Rican telecoms monopoly Grupo ICE has contracted ECI Telecom to supply it with a next-generation national backbone network, in a deal valued at USD59 million. ECI will deploy fibre-optic infrastructure based on its XDM multi-service provisioning platform (MSPP), enabling up to 40 channels of 10Gbps each. The new network will improve ICE’s capacity to deliver voice and data services to both fixed and mobile subscribers; the project is set to commence before the end of this year and will take up to 21 months to complete.
