Venezuelan PTO CANTV has contracted Alcatel to provide it with infrastructure to upgrade its internet access network to broadband capable in five major cities. The deal is part of a larger agreement that will see Alcatel implement a nationwide Metro Ethernet network for the telco’s planned rollout of triple-play services. The network will be completed by November 2005.
Meanwhile, CANTV’s mobile unit Movilnet has contracted Intellisync Corp to provide it with a new wireless email platform. The integration of the new platform will allow users to synchronise their email on mobile handsets with their personal computer, using applications such as Microsoft Outlook and Lotus Notes. The value of the deals was not disclosed.
