Tele2 launches fixed line and ADSL service over own network

28 Sep 2005

The Danish division of Pan-European alternative telco Tele2 has launched the group’s first package to bundle a telephone line and ADSL connection over its own infrastructure. Tele2 Denmark purchased ISP Tiscali Denmark for EUR20.7 million in February 2005, in the process acquiring an ADSL network covering around 65% of Danish households. It also gained 26,000 new ADSL customers and 50,000 dial-up subscribers via the acquisition, leapfrogging Telia Denmark to claim second place behind incumbent telco TDC in the internet access sector.

According to the Danish regulator, the National IT and Telecom Agency (Telestyrelsen), at the end of 2004 Tele2 boasted 36% of non-incumbent subscriber lines, and was the leader in the carrier pre-selection and call-by-call selection market, putting it ahead of nearest rival Telia Denmark as the largest competitor to TDC in the local access market. It also operates in the business market and in July 2002 took over the corporate customers of integrated services provider Ventelo, strengthening its position in the sector.
