Indian telco BSNL has decided to allow all equipment suppliers to bid in its USD5 billion tender for the installation of 60 million GSM connections. Previously, BSNL had planned to only consider bids from vendors with which it had existing partnerships – namely Nokia, Motorola, Nortel, Ericsson and Alcatel. Its U-turn paves the way for potential bids from international players such as Siemens, Lucent, Huawei and ZTE.
