A report on the Russian business news service Prime-Tass claims that Uzmacom, a wireless operator in Tashkent, has ceased operating. Uzmacom was established on 10 January 1996 and won a GSM-900 licence on 8 November 1996. Its licence expired on 5 August 2001 but was subsequently renewed for an additional 15 years. Uzmacom is a joint venture between SuperiorCom Mas Holdings Sendirian Berhad of Malaysia (76%) and Uzbektelecom (24%).
