Honduran communications firm InterGroup and US telecoms operator Payless Telephone Company have entered into a joint venture to provide voice, data and video services via Wi-Fi and VoIP technology. Payless will supply the wireless infrastructure equipment, initially covering the cities of Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula, La Ceiba, Tela, El Progreso, La Lima, Choluteca, San Lorenzo, Juticalpa, Catacamas and Santa Rosa, and InterGroup will handle the operational side of the business. According to the American company, the contract for Wi-Fi services will exceed 100,000 users over the next year and the venture will yield shared revenues of around USD15 million per annum.
