Austria’s fourth largest wireless operator, tele.ring, has chosen French supplier Alcatel to roll out HSDPA technology across its 3G mobile network. The two firms have already carried out lab tests of the technology which boosts achievable 3G data speeds from around 384kbps to 1.8Mbps. They are now beginning the process of upgrading tele.ring’s UMTS infrastructure in Vienna in preparation for a consumer trial. tele.ring is currently up for sale, with a number of investment groups reported to be interested.
