Indian cellco Hutchison Essar, a subsidiary of Hutchison Telecommunications, has applied for a domestic long-distance fixed telephony licence. It intends to lease capacity from other providers rather than deploy its own infrastructure for its planned long distance service, to complement its mobile presence in 13 of India’s telecoms circles.
