Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) has expressed an interest in acquiring rival operator Bayan Telecommunications (BayanTel). The operator says the acquisition will be in line with its strategy of buying into local-exchange carriers with provincial assets to expand its fixed line business. BayanTel currently has 227,057 subscribers, although it has installed 443,910 basic lines.
