Telecom Italia has successfully appealed a EUR152 million fine imposed by the Italian Antitrust Authority (IAA) last year over claims that it was abusing its dominant market position. Last November rivals, led by BT-backed Albacom, accused the incumbent of unfair dealings relating to a public tender in 2001. The IAA found in favour of claims that Telecom Italia had won the tender by offering prices that competing telcos could not match, as the costs it charged them to connect to its fixed line network were too high.
