The Mexican cellular operator Unefon has denied speculation that it is about to be taken over by a larger competitor. Responding to local press reports that it is discussing a sale following financial troubles, the company issued a statement saying: “Although over recent years Unefon has sustained formal talks with various telecommunications companies about a possible sale, at this moment there are currently no formal negotiations with any company.” It did add, however, that it would not rule out any future offers. Press reports have linked Unefon with the US-owned trunking operator Nextel.
