Unicom stats unveiled

China’s second largest mobile phone operator China Unicom has announced its subscriber statistics for the end of March. The company added 1.48 million customers during March, finishing the month with a total of 116.41 million subscribers, up from 112.08 million at the start of the year. Almost 87 million of its customers use GSM services, while the remainder are signed up to Unicom’s CDMA service. Unicom’s only competitor in the Chinese cellular market, China Mobile, is due to unveil its own first quarter operating statistics later today. China Mobile had 210.62 million GSM customers at the end of February.
