Vodafone Australia says it will launch 3G services in Sydney and Melbourne in October 2005. Presenting details of its phased rollout plan yesterday, the operator confirmed that UMTS services will be expanded to cover Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide from the first quarter of 2006. Vodafone is sharing network infrastructure with SingTel Optus, owned by telecoms heavyweight Singapore Telecom. Meanwhile, Telstra is planning to launch 3G services in five of the country’s largest cities from mid-2005; it is sharing its network with the local unit of Hutchison Whampoa.
