Q-Tel trials triple play venture with CATV provider

13 Apr 2005

Qatar’s dominant cable TV provider Qatar Cable Vision (QCV) is trialling the transmission of services via ADSL technology with a view to launching ‘triple play’ services over the infrastructure of incumbent fixed line provider Qatar Telecom (Q-Tel) in the near future. QCV currently provides the bulk of its CATV services via microwave multipoint distribution systems (MDMS), but rampant signal piracy has prompted it to look to DSL as an alternative means of providing services. Q-Tel and QCV hope to team up to offer telephony, high speed internet and TV to residential users before the end of the year.
