Lanka Bell inks USD40 million deal with Huawei

11 Apr 2005

Private fixed line telco Lanka Bell has announced the signing of a USD40 million deal with China’s Huawei Technologies for the delivery and implementation of a wireless in the local loop (WiLL) network based on CDMA technology. Under the deal the Chinese vendor will provide fixed wireless terminals to aid Lanka Bell’s quest to deliver telecoms services to rural parts of the country. The deal, which is being described as significant in terms of the two countries’ bilateral trade relations, is on top of the USD150 million already spent by Lanka Bell to expand its PSTN nation wide.
