Richard Branson, the chief executive of UK-based MVNO Virgin Mobile, has begun talks with Indian cellular operators Bharti Tele-Ventures, Idea Cellular and MTNL (Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd) to find a partner to launch virtual mobile services. Branson timed the discussions to coincide with his airline Virgin Atlantic’s first flight to Mumbai last week. Virgin also plans to sell branded handsets to the Indian market, and wants to set up similar MVNO operations in China, South Africa and Nigeria.
