Ericsson has won a contract from TT&TIM, the Turkish cellco which operates under the brand name Avea, to merge its two GSM networks and upgrade to EDGE. Avea was formed in February 2004 by the merger of Turk Telekom’s Aycell and Telecom Italia Mobile-backed Aria. Under the terms of the agreement Ericsson will double the capacity of Avea’s network and create a seamless, high quality network with an increased coverage area.
