Telefónica gets past spectrum expansion limits

Mexico’s second largest cellco Telefónica Movistar has won an appeal to bypass a decision by the Federal Competition Commission which limited the maximum amount of space that operators could buy in the 1900MHz frequency to just 35MHz. The company is now free to bid for more spectrum in the hotly-contested local cellular market. A Movistar spokesperson said that options to participate in upcoming frequency auctions were being considered.
