Government still undecided about 3G

The Chinese government has continued to approach with caution the issue of 3G licences in the country, despite reports last week that it would award four licences following recommendations from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). According to the State Development and Reform Commission (SDRC), however, the government may in fact only issue three concessions in a bid to reduce network rollout costs. The home-grown TD-SCDMA standard is currently being tested.
