Cofetel closes ‘pirate’ VoIP operators

Mexican telecoms regulator Cofetel has shut down 13 VoIP companies for operating without the proper licences, according to Business News Americas. The regulator claims it has received 14 complaints about illegal VoIP operators to date, acting on all but one of them. Cofetel has said that it will also begin investigating local companies offering services through US VoIP heavyweight Vonage, ensuring they adhere to regulations surrounding the use of international gateways and local telephony switches.
