Brasil Telecom dispute nears resolution?

29 Oct 2004

The long-running dispute between Brasil Telecom (and its major shareholder Opportunity) and its one time shareholder Telecom Italia could be nearing an end, following police raids in five Brazilian cities. The raids, which included the offices of Kroll, the US investigations company, and the homes of Ms Chico and Daniel Dantas, Opportunity’s founder and senior partner, revealed documents and equipment which suggest that Kroll had engaged in illegal surveillance, which Kroll denies. The operation concerned alleged illegalities committed by Kroll while spying on Telecom Italia on behalf of Brasil Telecom and Opportunity.
