Kenyan cellco Safaricom has announced the connection of its two millionth subscriber, exactly four years after it launched its GSM-900 network. The company claims to have spent more than KES10 billion (approximately USD120 million) this year alone in expanding and upgrading its network infrastructure, including the installation of a seventh switching station (in Mombasa) and the erection of more than 140 new base stations. Safaricom is 40% owned by Vodafone.
