Pakistan Telecommunications Mobile Ltd (which operates under the brand name Ufone) has awarded Nortel Networks a contract to expand its GSM/GPRS network over the next year. Under the terms of the deal, worth USD125 million, the Canadian equipment vendor will upgrade Ufone’s existing wireless systems and supply new GSM/GPRS core network infrastructure and radio access equipment. Nortel Networks has been supplying wireless infrastructure equipment to Ufone since 2001.
