Swisscom has confirmed it is in talks with Austrian counterpart Telekom Austria over a possible merger plan, confirming long-running speculation about a tie-up between two of Europe’s smaller incumbents. Austria’s Finance Ministry declined to comment on the announcement, while Swisscom has only said ‘no decision has yet been made with regard to the acquisition of shares or the submission of an offer to the shareholders of Telekom Austria’.
