Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) has said that cellular subscribers at its subsidiaries Pilipino Telephone (Piltel) and Smart Communications jumped 51% in 2003 to top 13 million. Wholly-owned market leader Smart finished the year with around 10.1 million subscribers signed up to its Smart Buddy (pre-paid) and Smart Gold (post-paid) plans, whilst the 45%-owned Piltel claimed around 2.9 million.
