Switzerland’s former monopoly telco Swisscom is planning to launch a public wireless LAN (W-LAN) service across Europe following the acquisition of stakes in independent W-LAN operators Megabeam in the UK and WLAN AG in Germany. The service, called Swisscom Eurospot, has close to 400 hotspots under contract and is set to launch in the first half of this year.
