PriMetrica Announces Acquisition of TeleGeographyAcquisition Completes Full Suite of Market Intelligence ProductsJune 10, 2003 San Diego, California – PriMetrica, Inc., which provides market intelligence and analytics to the global telecom industry, announced today that it has acquired TeleGeography, Inc. (TGI), the Washington, DC-based publisher of authoritative research on global networks, traffic flows and pricing. International news media, governments and corporations in over 100 countries consider TGI research to be the definitive source for statistics on global bandwidth supply and demand. Media and wire services as disparate and far-flung as the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, The Economist, Reuters, and Russia’s ITAR-TASS include TGI-derived data in their news reports and analysis. PriMetrica CEO Thomas Murphy said the addition of TGI’s proprietary database and analytics “enables Primetrica to provide its 850 clients with mappings of the virtual world of voice and data flows,” in addition to the traditional data sets that PriMetrica tracks of the physical world of governments, companies and geographic markets. New Mapping of “Electronic Terrain”“The old geography of countries and coastlines is still valid, but we must begin to appreciate the new geography defined by roaming mobiles, satellite footprints, and Internet addresses,” Murphy noted. “The increasingly massive traffic flows have created an electronic terrain that transcends borders and geophysical barriers, giving decision-makers a new way of seeing and assessing world markets and opportunities. This electronic mapping reveals who is moving the world’s data streams, how quickly, and at what price.” Daily Telecom Market UpdatesMurphy also said executives are demanding novel information-distribution modes to track fast-moving industry changes. “Decision-makers can no longer depend solely on voluminous paper reports that can take several months to produce,” he noted. “The situation in Iraq – where a new network construction project was let in less than 10 days after Baghdad’s liberation – proved that market opportunities can emerge with lightning speed. We need to get breaking news, and the context around it, to our customers on a virtual daily basis.” Online, Browser-based Subscription ServiceMurphy said PriMetrica would soon provide an online “access, search and retrieval service” that will make its entire comprehensive telecom database, analysis and news archives available to customers on a ‘round-the-clock basis, providing a “complete physical and virtual view of the telecom world.” The new subscription service will give executives an unprecedented knowledge base that tracks every company, government, regulatory body, market sector, network and subscriber base in the telecom, datacom and digital media industries. Murphy said the online, subscription-based service would be rolled out in late summer.
