FCC expected to rule on telecoms mergers this week

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is expected to rule this week on the two mega-mergers which will change the shape of the US telecoms market: SBC’s purchase of AT&T and Verizon’s deal to buy MCI. Traditionally the Justice Department’s anti-trust division announces its decision prior to any FCC announcement, which is expected on Friday at a scheduled committee meeting.
