Canada unveils WNP implementation plan
The Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) has announced plans to begin the implementation of wireless number portability (WNP) in Canada in 2007. In a comprehensive 64-page report, completed by PricewaterhouseCoopers earlier this month, the CWTA’s WNP Task Force has identified mid-2007 as the optimum date for commencing WNP pilot tests over a limited geographical area, adding that it plans to introduce WNP on a national basis from September 2007. Commenting on the announcement, CTWA President & CEO Peter Barnes said: ‘Canada will be only the third country in the world to offer complete wireless-to-wireless, wireless-to-wireline and wireline-to-wireless portability’.
