C&W is first to launch London NGN
UK telco Cable & Wireless (C&W) says it is the first operator to roll out next generation network (NGN) technology to the capital, London. The new network is the first phase of a GBP190 million three-year NGN rollout across the UK, offering advanced telecoms services, including IP voice telephony, higher speed broadband and advanced multimedia services to government and business clients. The C&W NGN will be enabled by seven metro nodes platforms for multiple high speed services based at Acton, Hammersmith, Battersea, Westminster, Deptford, Poplar and Camden, covering an area currently served by 100 exchanges of the incumbent BT. The first users of the new network will be customers of C&W’s Bulldog Broadband venture, which already offers internet services at speeds of up to 8Mbps.
